The photograph of a Dalmatian is one of the analogue era. A somewhat blurry snapshot, hastily taken, it seems. The dog extends over the whole picture. The colour doesn't seem to correspond with reality, but it doesn't have to. Nijhof's photograph carries the thin and fleeting beauty of a snapshot, which is something you can only see when the photo is printed. Snapshots now represent an overall value and genre within the realm of visual art. Nijhof's photograph is much younger and dates back to the early days of this way of shooting.
