This is the opening exhibition at the brand-new Showdepot.
For me, the title *The Sky Still Stands* has multiple layers of meaning.
It reflects the uncertainty of the present day, yet at the same time resonates with my personal life. This is the very first exhibition I have curated without my partner, Peter Jordaan (1954–2025). Amidst all these major upheavals, I am searching for a beacon of tranquillity. The sky above us symbolises continuity, whilst the unshakeable power and comfort of art keep us standing. *The Sky Still Stands* also refers very specifically to the selected artworks and the particular way in which they have been brought together at the Showdepot. The layout is structured as a walk that takes you from light to darkness, from shadow to dawn. There is a rhythm, a breath: from looking inwards to gazing outwards, in an irregular interplay of day and night.
